  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Recommendation for rabbit expert vet in Surrey?

Please could anyone recommend a vet in Surrey, in or around Woking if possible, who is an expert in treating rabbits? My rabbit is having some complex medical problems at the moment, and if our current vet decides he should be put to sleep I'd like to get a second opinion from an expert before agreeing to it. Many thanks in advance.

I am in Windlesham and can recommend various in our area. Would be helpful to know what the issue is to be able to recommend the best one for that issue.

Happy to speak on the phone if it's helpful.

Sorry to hear about your bunny.

I think the vet that The Duchess on here uses is fairly expert. I think she is in Windlesham - not sure how far that is from you. It might be worth PMing her?

My vet is Northdown vets in Milford (nr Godalming). They are very good. I would have no hesitation in recommending them, although wouldn't say they are 'experts' as in they don't specifically specialise in rabbits. I have always been very impressed with the care my buns have received there, though. They have another surgery at Greyfriars - I'm never sure where that is but it might be closer to Woking! Search for Northdown Vets Milford for more info on their website.

Good luck, I hope you get some support for you bunny :)

ETA just seen that The Duchess is a much quicker typer than me

Wow, thank you for such quick replies! I'll email Helen with some more details; I think I'm probably looking for a vet who's really up to date with rabbit surgery - it seems bun is losing blood from somewhere so if his current cocktail of drugs doesn't make him better I guess some more invasive procedures might be necessary to find and fix where it's coming from. At the moment we're still working through various things with our local vet, who isn't a rabbit specialist but does seem good, but if we get to the point of exhausting the tests and treatments she can offer I'd like to be ready to get a second opinion fast.
Thanks again!
