Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bunny peeing pink!

k.mdaniels

Alpha Buck
I have noticed since Friday Sammy's Pee seems to be pink in colour:shock:

He seems completely normal, eating, pooing and usual self all normal.

On Thursday I put a new toy in his hutch which is colored red, he's only had a couple of nibbles at it.

Should I be worried?

Mine have had pink/rose tinted wee for almost the entire time we've had them. I think I discovered what it is though - the woodshavings reacting to the wee as when they wee just on newspaper with no shavings; no pink wee.

Mine are also fine in every other way, drinking/eating/poo amount and consistency/eating/playing/sleeping. I was told it's rare for a bunny to have true blood in its wee.

Oh! A way I was told to test is this - try and get some wee on a white sheet of kitchen paper. If it dries orange it's due to dye in the food or something else it's munching, but if it dries brown then it's probably blood.

mine pee lots of colours depending on what they have been eating..

it could be the dye in the toy. i nearly had Buddy to the emergency vets a few weeks ago, saw what looked like dark red blood in his pee, took pictures, called vets, went to soak it up and it was a bright orange carrot wee..
