  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Floaty bit on eye - what could it be?

Hi again...

I have been putting up a post a day it seems! So grateful for all the advice from you guys!

Leo my male bun has some white floating bits on his eye ball. It seems to be on the surface and not something thats embedded because its moves around on his eye.

I saw it again this morning and made some camomile tea, cooled it and tried to wipe the stuff off but between the time i made the tea and when I got him on the spot, the white stuff had gone! And now its back again! Apart from that, hes perfectly fine, eating well and has boundless energy. Not affecting his eyesight either as he is still following me all around for treats!

Any idea what it could be and if its serious? He's due in the vets for his first check up on the 3rd August, but if its serious, I would bring him in sooner.

Many thanks!

One of my buns had this. Whipped it out with damp cottonwool. No probs since.

If it's worrying you though, I'd get it checked out.
