  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

i noticed that one of her eyes was half closed and streaming a bit. i checked her over and bathed the eye and a piece of hay was sticking into it. we managed to gently pull it out and immediately she could open her eye properly although the inside corner is still a tiny bit pink. i bathed it again and it looks much better.

we're at the vets monday with chesney and his weight loss so we will have maisie's eye checked over aswell.

i can't believe what's happening lately! everything at once.

the hay can't have been in her eye long as i keep checking them regularly because of chesney.

i just want to cry at the minute  what am i doing so wrong. :(

You're not! You noticed it and removed it. :) They need their hay and this is an unavoidable hazzard, as far as I can see. Hope both guineas get on well on Monday.

sorry, i get all panicky and over anxious.

her eye looks pretty much back to normal now. :) i bathed it again and will get the vets to check it out on monday.

she's fine in herself aswell, being cheeky as usual. :)

Hope your guineas are ok today! :)

thanks for asking about them.. :) they're doing well thank you. i bathed maisie's eye again last night and today i can't see any difference between her eyes so that's good. :) i'll still get the vet to check her over tomorrow though to make sure she's ok. she seems happy enough anyway! :)

maisie had her eye checked today at the vets. he put dye into it and checked thoroughly and it's completely fine. :)
