Hutch Advise

EB18

Warren Scout
Hi

Im looking for a hutch and run to allow my house rabbit to be able to play safely in my garden which is detached from my house.

My Friend has the following hutch and run for her outdoor rabbit and she is very pleased with the quality of it compared to previous hutchs and runs she has had. (links below)

Please can you tell me what you think as i am currently looking at getting this one for my little bunny. I would have considered a shed/wendyhouse etc but i live in rented accomadation and the garden already has a shed which is knackered and i have to store my bike in it. Plus i wanted something that would be easier to take with me when i move.

Many Thanks

Charlotte

Pets at home hutches are notorious for not being very good quality. Also the hutch is only 4 foot, it is a double but the ramps take out a lot of space from doubles, and the run is only 4x4. So even with attaching the run permanently you only have a floor space of 32ft. The recommended minimum is 6x2 with an attached run of 8x4 which gives a sq footage of 44ft. Plus loosing space with the ramps.

I'm sure some others can suggest some good companies. Mine are indoors you see

there was a link somewhere to folding wooden runs, from ebay I think, very reasonable prices. Sorry don't have the link.

http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/search.php?searchid=7814235 Have a look at the pictures in the above posts, these are hutches which are made to order in Cornwall. Whilst they are more expensive than the standard soft wood hutch they will outlast your bunnies. The good thing is that they come flat packed and can be taken apart if you move easily.

If you want more information about this make contact Helen (The Duchess) who will be able to confirm the high standard of these hutches and how long they last and how to contact Pilch who makes them

Thank you for the advise I will have a look around for a bigger hutch and run. He has free range of the house as hes a house rabbit but I just wanted to give him the option of playing I'n the sunlight safely with out me worrying too much.

If he will be coming in at night you could consider a wooden run with a small shelter. This way your money will get him more space than in a hutch and run.

Here is an 8x4 rabbit run for £105. Add a tarp for sun and rain protection and a hideaway inside and it would be great space to run around in during the day.

Yea he will be Inside at night and I'n bad weather he will just be outside when I'm at work and the weather is mostly dry. My work is 15 mins away so would also be checking I'n on him at lunch if I feel the need to bring him back inside at some point during the day I can.

Thank you i will have a look at buying the largest one and will get a little hide away place to go I'n it where he can go to feel safe and I'll get the tarp too! :D

The minimum size you will need is a Hutch that is 6ft x 2ft x 2ft with an attached 6ft x 4ft run.
Happy hutch is a good company as is the rabbit hutch shop.
