Head Tilt

Hi,

I'm new here.

My female bunny has head tilt. Got her to the vets on Monday and was prescribed Panacur.

She lives in a shed, with buck, their hutch is in there as well. When she's inside she rolls a lot, and does not look good. However she managed to get out and is running around like there is nothing wrong, albeit with a slight tilt. She's munching on the grass, however she won't touch her hay or pellets, she will also drink from a bowl.

I've got a follow up appointment today at the vets, however I'm rather worried about the car journey, will it make her dizzy even more so?

At times I think she's getting worse, when she's in her hutch and then I let her out and she is her old self again. Anyone else experienced this before?

Yip, i have had a head tilt bunny.

The cause for the tilt could be EC, which you would be getting the panacur for, or an Inner Ear Infection, which you should be getting antibiotics for. It is common practice to treat for both seen as the actual cause is hard to diagnose. With both you should also be getting Metacam, which helps to reduce inflammation.

For the vet journey, i used to roll up towels in a large box and put my Kermit in. Take your other bun too, they will provide stability :)

I would try to pad out the hutch a bit too as this can help bun keep balance.

Vibes for the vet visit xx

When Mischa had head tilt I held him in the car. We didn't actually have a carrier at the time but I would've done this even if we had. I just wrapped him in a towel and held him against my chest.

As Kermit says it could be EC or it could be an ear infection so you need both Panacur and antibiotics. Bunny should also be on painkiller as well, this will help him to feel a bit more like eating and also it is an anti-inflammatory so will help with the head tilt as well.

Hi,

Thank you for all the helpful replies. Poppy is improving, yay! She's now on a stronger dose of the panacur and no longer rolling over. She still has a tilt although that is improving and she seems to be adapting to it. She's gone quite skinny and is fussy about what she eats. Ive been putting her out onto the grass as much as possible as she seems to be loving munching on that at the moment. I've tempted her with digestives and she's managed half a biscuit (I know there not great for rabbits but hopefully they'll help her put weight on). She's also enjoying mushed up banana and apple juice. I've put a bowl of different fruits and veg to tempt her with. My other two rabbits are now on a dose of the panacur to prevent it happening to them.
