Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poo problems?

jeny

Warren Scout
I've had Indy for 3 weeks this weekend, she's gaining weight, eating hay and the mix she was on when she came, pooing normally EXCEPT first thing on a morning and when I get home at 6pm theres a pile of squashed, soft, smelly poo's.

I'm assuming this is her caetrophs which she should be consuming... I have no method of knowing whether she's eating any of them.

Do you think this warrants a visit to the vets?

In unrelated toilet business, she's out of her cage at the moment and I've put her litter tray on the floor, she's just gone to it to wee  clever girl!!

She's had some parsley this week but not loads.

Should she be having pro biotic? I'll get some this weekend, what am I looking for?

I'll get some bramble leaves tomorrow from the gardens at work.

No, this has been happening since she came.

I've ordered some of that feed. How long do you suggest I give her the probiotic? Just so I can order enough first time round.

Thanks for your help.

I would give it for at least 5 days. If the poo problem has not resolved after that time I would get your Vet to check her over.

Are the 'soft poo piles' actually formed -ie a squashed cecotrophs, or are they like cow pats ?

Is she keeping herself clean ? You do need to be vigilant re Flystrike, even in a House Rabbit.

They are formed and squashed, some of then she misses are like little tubes but formed. Her bum clean and she isn't dirty elsewhere so I'm not sure what she's doing.

Thanks again, I'll order a few packs.
