  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

It has grown significantly over the last 2 weeks, it now covers over half his eye, the vet is reluctant to remove his eye straight away as she is unsure if it is connected to his brain.:(

Photos have been taken and sent off to a specialist which she is chasing up.

We are at abit of a loss what to do, Dylan does have a slight head tilt, but we are unsure if it is all connected.

No advice, just wanted to say, what a cute bun!

Sorry for not being more useful, but I just don't know so I'm afraid I can't help.

Thank you so much Jane, I have forwarded the link to the vets.

Dylan is already on a 28 days course of panacur but I have an appointment tomorrow so I will talk to her about the further treatment he may need,

Maxitrol Eye Drops maybe ?

All he has had is a 10 day course of baytril, he was severely underweight when he arrived (he was kept in a kitchen wall unit outside). Since arriving he has had a dental and had part of his ear removed.

Poor little chap

Has he had a NSAID- eg Metacam ?

He did for a few days after his op, but not since then.

Well *if* it is EC induced Uveitis NSAIDs are essential in the acute phase. Might be worth calling the Vet today to ask if he can start on some now. Not so much for pain relief, although Uveitis can be painful, but to try to minimise the inflammatory response to erupting EC spores.

If he is started on Maxitrol that contains a corticosteroid which would act as a good anti-inflammatory. Maxitrol also contains an abx. Metacam may not be necessary once the Maxitrol is started.

The Maxitrol may need to be given for several weeks, even months. But in the EC Uveitis cases I have seen it has been possible to stop the treatment. There is permanent lens damage (the lens actually ruptures) and consequently loss of vision. But so far, about 3 years after the onset of the problem, there has been no secondary infection/abscessation within the eye.

Thanks Jane,

I'll give them a call, I have some metacam here and I'm sure she will let me start him on it.

I'll let you know how he gets on at the vets tomorrow.

Realised when thinking about Dylan in the early hours of this morning that I forgot to mention that *some* cases of Uveitis can lead to the development of Glaucoma. So the intraocular pressure would need monitoring.

Sending more vibes for his appointment today

J xx
