base for run

Callu

New Kit
Hi,

We've recently brought home two lovely baby buns, Arthur and Merlin, and want to create a walk-in run to house them and their hutch in an awkward corner of our garden.

The corner is sheltered, generally out of direct sunlight, and I can't see what else we'd use it for, so is in some ways ideal, but it's going to take some work to get a suitable run set up!

Our garden slopes away from the house, toward the bottom is an 80cm high retaining wall. The 'bunny corner' is behind this, and is an irregular shape with sides approx 9ft, 8.5ft, 10ft and 6ft. The site slopes slightly, is currently covered in gravel and has two drain covers on it (at slightly different levels). There is also a rockery we intend to remove and replace with another low wall at the back.

The plan is to create a walk-in run using aviary panels and pvc roofing. We've no idea what's the best option for a base though :? and hope someone out there might have some suggestions
- We assume that the current gravel isn't ideal?
- Decking could level the whole site (with hatches above the drains), but would buns nibble at it?
- We could lay concrete slabs, though its hard work (particularly with the slope) and probably more expensive.
- Or wire covered with topsoil?
- Is it ok to leave the drain covers exposed?
- Would something like chunky gravel board be ok to create a level surface to attach the panels to?

Or does anyone have a more simple suggestion?!
