Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eye problem and weight!!

Young Bun
Hello,
I have a 7 week old baby rabbit and last week I weighed him and he was exactly 2lbs , today I weighed him ( 1 week later) he weighs 2lbs 3 and half ounces , is 3 and a half ounces a good weight gain in a week!
Also I have noticed that just by his eye it has gone a bit flakey, and there is a bit of hair loss , the thing is the exact same thing happened to my guinea pig a year or so back and we brought her to the vet and she said it could be mange or something like that but the treatment they have is used on cows and it would be to strong so she advised us to put sudacream on it and it should clear up, we did that and it did and we never had the problem again. So this time I have put sudacream on it but I would like to know if it could be the same thing or if it is different, and do I need to bring him to the vet or is there anything else I can do, I no the vet is the best thing but where i live they are VERY expensive and I dont exactly have that type of money right now!
Thank you

To me that looks like a problem *within* the the nasolacrimal duct (tear duct)

This may be due to an infection or injury so I am afraid a consultation with a Vet is essential.

Tooth root problems can also cause similar symptoms, but tooth root problems in such a young Rabbit are less likely to be the issue.

Personally I would not put suducrem near the eye, scroll down to part 3 on the Data Sheet
