Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Insurance

Hi, is it worth getting a bunny insured? Had a quote from Petplan via internet and it's £17 a month, bar a few pence, for the 2 bunnies. However, £50 excess per bunny per treatment/illness and only covers bunnies until they are 5 years old. Is it worth it? Is there a cheaper but good cover insurance out there? Shall I just put the £17 away each month instead? :? Thanks.

We are with Petplan and I think we pay about £26.50 per month for both of them and our excess is £60.00.
We were debating whether or not it is worth having due to Jimby's policy have a LOT of exclusions because we did not take it out when we first got him and he had had a few tummy problems and teeth so they will not cover those or a whole host of things that could relate to them, but having said that, anything else is covered so I do think it is worth it as vet bills can get very expensive.
So really I think £17 is pretty good to cover two bunnies.

If you can't afford £2000 in vet fees then you need insurance. Petplan are the best as far as I'm concerned.

I've been having a similar debate recently. They are currently insured, but it does seem a lot of money so we are thinking of just putting money away every month instead. It would be on the understanding though that we would pay whatever we had to should anything happen to them.
