  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bit concerned about appetite....

Alpha Buck
I have noticed in the past week or so that my two are eating far less....actually let me re-phrase....they are not as keen to eat dinner but do finish it (if left in overnight....whereas before I feed about 7ish and it would be gone by 9!)

They both had their Mxyi jabs last week, a thorough examination etc and the vet found nothing untoward....
They are both bright as usual - and leaping around in the run, jumping about, binkies etc....

But my first n foremost concern is the fact they are eating far less than usual, and even seem to be eating less hay.....Droppings are a little smaller than usual and not as golden (eating less hay)..

Having said that - when given a treat etc they dont turn their noses up and come running to tuck in....

I am back at the vets next Fri for their VHD anyway....I dont know whether I should be worried or not?! Tempted to go for another check up to be sure - but dont want to come away feeling the same as before (ie all is well) as I am just more puzzled....

They are finishing their dinner but taking an extra few hours compared to before, and eating over longer periods of time - and less hay overall...

Anyone else experienced this....could it be the weather?!

It may just be the heat. Mine are spending more time asleep during the day and eating more in the evenings at the moment.
