It's less than three months since her last episode, poor girl:cry::cry:

She was bright and lively at 11.30pm and eating well, at 6.00 am she was not eating and in obvious discomfort. The sad thing is I don't leave them for that length of time during the day so I don't know how long she had been in pain for :cry::cry:

I've taken her the 1 hour (long detour because of roadworks) trip to Harcourt-Browns where she was admitted for x-ray, blood glucose testing and whatever else is necessary. I felt a bit panicked when the vet said her abdomen felt hard but she's been there over 2 hours and I've not had a phone call so I've trying to calm down and hope it's 'only' belly ache. bEssie-Boo was also really calm/quiet when examined by the vet which scared the hell out of me but she gave about 12 big thumps when put in the carrier which reassured me somewhat.

Any get well vibes for lovely Essie?

Thank you all sooo much for the vibes :D

The blood glucose test that Esme had somewhere between 3 and 4pm was 10, massively better than the previous one. Artie had a reading of 9 just from routine vet trip (ie the stress of car travel, being pulled about etc) so 10 is excellent in the circumstances. I don't know how many they took but it had been 'coming down' since the first one. I've just looked back on previous threads and Little Dot's glucose reading before she had surgery was 18.6 so only 0.6 above Esme's reading today :(

Follow up x-rays showed that there was no sign of the obstruction, it had moved along, dispersed, whatever obstructions do when surgery isn't needed. So, they were preparing to syringe feed her by then as it was safe and essential to get some food into her. Esme has extra issues of liver damage if she doesn't eat for a long time because of being overweight and risk of fatty liver so there would be a fine balancing act to deal with the main issue and then prevent liver damage if possible as well. I don't know how long she went without food but could in theory be about 16 hours. I'm going to cut pellets out completely when she gets home (she only gets a few) but I seriously need to tackle her issue of being overweight as it puts her at greater risk when she goes into stasis.

Thanks for the vibes, it's a lonely road with a sick bunny without them.

Thank you. She's coming home today :D

I've just had a long telephone conversation with Frances, Esme was incredibly close to having surgery yesterday :cry: I handed her over in the consultation to Allison, who did Little Dot's surgery last October. I kind of picked up from Allison that she thought Esme was more serious than most I've handed over though she didn't actually say she thought she would be having surgery she was fully expecting her to be a surgery case from how she presented.

Esme's blood glucose was actually 18.6 - exactly the same at Dot's was. The only difference being that Esme arrived early morning so they had time to sit and watch instead of having to make a decision more quickly. Esme also had some feistiness about her whereas Dot didnt. At blood glucose of 20 she would have been having surgery. She improved as the day went on though apparently Frances was still worried that she might make a turn for the worst, luckily all the studies/research with the blood glucose paid dividends and having gone down the reading didn't go back up and Esme has eaten well overnight. The fact that she was thumping yesterday morning was a sign to them also that she wasn't ready to give up :love:

I've come incredibly close to losing my Esme, I can't wait to give her a big cuddle. I'm collecting her after work.

Fanks for the vibes.

Thanks so much everyone.

I got back home with her mid evening but I'm massively behind workwise, so I didn't have time to post.

Esme looked stressed on the very long journey back but she started nibbling hay within seconds of getting out of the carrier :love: She's not eating cabbage and pellets as fast as normal (which is no doubt a good thing!) but she's eating loads of hay and stripped some raspberry leaves like a true professional :lol: She's pleased to be home and thanks her Auntie Karen for the snuggle :D
