  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dylan, Something wrong & I don't know what.

Two weeks ago Dylan went off her food & needed a dental.

Distinct lack of interest in food, but not all the time. Normally she'd go mad for pellets & they’ll be gone in seconds. At the mo, I can give her one & she'll turn her nose up. She's eating, just not enthusiastic about it. She’s also much, much slower at eating.

She just really isn’t herself, quiet & just ‘off’. Vet cant find anything else wrong. Might take her to the specialists with Rhia.

Depends on how advanced tooth root elongation is. At the start there can be intermittent episodes of jaw pain, presenting as reduced food intake, selective feeding, GI tract hypomotility etc.

In more advanced cases the mandible can feel very lumpy and/or the Rabbit can develop chronic 'runny eyes' with or without the presence of active infection.

Thank You :) Her jaw is definitely not lumpy at all. She doesn't selective feed as such, its just a lack of interest where food is concerned. And she is quiet in herself. No runny eyes, poos as they always have been. Urgh, Buns are far too complexed!
