Young Bun
Hi!! I'm Jeni, 29 and Mummy to two gorgeous little bunnies. I only picked up my 2nd this weekend and I'm looking into getting a better indoor setup for them. At the moment I have 2 Pets At Home 120cm indoor cages, one underneath the other with a hole cut through and a ladder. I'm worried that as my lionhead Evangeline grows this wont be enough space. Does anyone have any ideas on how to adapt a dog crate? Thanking you in advance, all ideas welcome (oh, one requirement is that it looks neat so doesnt upset house proud boyfriend!)

Hi Jeni.:wave: Welcome to the forum.

Lots of people have added a second level to a dog crate. Here are just a few I found:

If it isn't clear enough from the photos, I'm sure the original posters of those threads wouldn't mind you asking them for more detailed instructions on how to do it. :)

I don't know what you're intending to use the dog crate for but just wanted to mention that this wouldn't be big enough for full time use... ideally it would be good as a base in a bunny-proofed room, or with an attached run made from puppy pen panels. (In which case, you may decide to stick with the indoor rabbit cage as a base, but adding an exercise area on to that).

Thank you Karen x

Hi Karen, thanks. The bunnies come out every evening for 2-3 hours and have full use of the apartment, and obviously longer at weekends. They love sitting on the back of the sofa (against a wall) and hoping on the beds. I'm just a bit worried Eva will get too big to fit through the ladder space even if i extend it, but will they fall off shelves if I put shelves into the crate? The crate I am looking at is 120cm long.....:D

Hi

You're welcome to PM me if you would like any further info on how we did ours. :D

I don't actually use a crate any longer as I found it difficult to clean out. I'd already bunny proofed the room as the crate we had was only a small one and in the end I turfed the crate out in favour of the open space. :) Just something you might want to take into consideration.
