rabbit poem

sdf76

Mama Doe
My mum couldn't remember the words to the old rabbit poem called
Little Willie Cottontail.
I searched the internet to no avail other than finding a sudoku site where they couldn't remember the words either!

My mum suddenly remembered it! so for any of you wondering what the words to the poem are- here it is in full.:D (we think?)

Little Willie Cottontail was going for a run
'Don't lose your way,' said Mother
'and don't stay out in the sun.
Don't eat too many juicy leaves,
- don't wander far away
and, Willie, don't forget - be home by end of day'

But little Willie went and did
the things his Mother told him not.
He stuffed himself with juicy leaves
and made himself all hot.

Then Willie slept and dreamt
of a hungry fox that chased him.
However much he ran away,
the horrid creature chased him.

when Willie woke at last
instead of Mr Sun,
Mr Moon shone down on him,
for night-time had begun..

When Dad found little Willie,
"I'll light you home" said he.
for he could see that little Willie
was as frightened as could be.

When Mum saw little Willie
she hurried him to bed.
and what he got for disobedience
is better left unsaid.

If anyone can remember if there's any more or if any of it is incorrect please let me know?

I used to read this to my kids when they were little but no sign of the book now.:(
I am told its an old American poem.(?)

Have edited it as mum remembered another verse!

There was a picture in the book I had, of father rabbit with Willie on his back holding round his dads neck and his Dad carrying a lantern as they walked out of the woods.
