  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

hi i rescued 2 rabbits about 3 weeks ago 1 is a mini lop and 1 is a lion lop i was told they was both does i got up yesterday morning to find i had a nest with babies in they was only together whilst i was travelling home,as at home i had seperate cages can anybody advise me on anything i need to do with the mum and kittens other than to avoid touching them many thanks xx

The mum should take care of everything but she'll need plenty of food and water. Make sure there is lots of hay too as she may have used it up building the nest and she'll eat more.

The babies should start leaving the nest between 2-3 weeks at which point, again lots of food and they may need a bowl to drink before they get the hang of a bottle.

If you book dad in for a neuter now then it should be safe to keep the two adults together once the babies are ready to go. They'll need separating into boys and girls at 8-9 weeks.

Your two buns may possible be both doe's, if you got them 3 weeks ago then she was pregnant before you picked her up as they carry for 28-31days usually. however I would make sure your other bun isn't expecting too

hi thanks the babies are making a squeaky funny noise is this normal and also is it normsl for the mum to go off her food she isnt usually greedy and only eats a very small amount but seems to be eating even less at the moment.i have checked my other so called doe and according to the pics on the internet it is infact a buck :( x
