  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rear guard - side effects?

Hardy

New Kit
:wave:Hello, I think I just posted to the wrong forum so am trying again!!!

I applied Rear Guard to Poppy last night and she hasn't touched any food since... I'm not even sure if she has had any water! Is this normal? At what point should I take her to the vet??
:(

If a rabbit hasn't eaten for about 12 hours it's already urgent, it's about 24 hours in Poppy's case so she needs to see a vet this evening as her guts need to be got going again ASAP.

Edit to add: Rear guard shouldn't cause loss of appetite, certainly not to that degree, is there a possibility that she's ingested any of it? (grooming herself etc)

I would definately get her to the vets as soon as you can a bunny not eating isnt good they can go downhill very quickly

I agree about getting her to the vets as soon as you can. They should give her some gut stimulant and check for any obstructions etc.

If she has pellets you could try soaking them in water for her to tempt her. Try offering fresh herbs such as parsley and coriander. Hope she's okay. If they stop eating for too long their whole body can shut down.
