  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

fungus infection in ears?

gil

Mama Doe
just had mischa at vet as i noticed she had some dry scaly skin on her ears. vet thinks its a fungus/yeast infection and have been given abx for her. did not notice any mites and its definitely not right inside her ear.
anyone have any experience of this?

I don't have any experience on this, but I didn't want to read and run. I'm bumping this for you so hopefully someone can come along and give you the answer. :)

I hope Mischa will recover quickly. xxxxx

Systemic Antibiotics wont treat a fungal infection :?

Do you mean that eardrops were prescribed, something like Canaural ?

i have no experience of this i'm afraid but as jane says, i'm not sure abx would treat the fungal infection - unless it had been irritated and become infected?

i was given baytril mixed with orange juice! new vet at the practice, not seen her before, seems she is not long qualified, also stabbed herself with a needle and had blood pouring out of her finger! to take Mischa back if the ear doesn't clear!
