Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Injury from cat bite-Infection??

I have a baby wild rabbit called clover that was brought to me a few days ago after being attacked by a cat. The first day I got her I couldn't see and wounds but I gave her Baytril in case of infection. I was told to stop with the baytril if she didn't have any cuts as it could upset her stomach's natural bacteria so she just had the one dose.

Since then she's been lovely and seems very healthy, and happy... eating and drinking and hopping about a lot.

BUT I just noticed a cut on her. It has scabbed over and is about 5mm long. Is there a chance that infection will set in after this long?? She was brought to me early afternoon on sunday so has been here just over two days. I'm really scared and don't want to make a mistake and loose her :(

It's impossible to say if the wound is or is not infected without seeing it. Wounds caused by a cat can lead to the development of an abscess, especially if the wound was the result of a bite.

I would advise you to get a Vet to check Clover's wound.

Thanks for your reply JacksJane
I've tried to have a proper look at her wound but it's near her bum in the fluffiest place so it's really hard to get a proper look at. The only way I noticed it was because it's scabbed over so I can feel it. It doesn;t seem to be causing her any pain or seeping at all. I'm taking my 2 domestic buns to the vets tomorrow for their vaccinations so I'll take her along and get her checked.

Is there a chance of septicemia? I know that it's easy for cat bite victims to suddenly die from this, because cats carry pasturella (I think) in their saliva.
