  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Small mark on Clover's side

Blackberry & Co

Wise Old Thumper
The last couple of days Dan has been nuzzling into Clover's side at the same spot. I managed to catch Clo last night and have a look - there is a tiny scratch there, which looks to have healed, but there is also a dark round patch on the skin next to it, a little smaller than a 5pence coin, which is flat. I can't see a mark anywhere else like this under his fur.

Do bunnies have moles/birthmarks like us? I'm happy to take him to the vets to have it looked at, but if it's just skin pigmentation I don't want to waste their time.

He's full of beans, eating and pooping well, and apart from that small mark looks in great health.

Can you post a pic? I know when Bella has had fur pulled out in the past her skin is different colours underneath but then she is different colours to start with

Could the dark mark be where new fur is starting to grow in, that looks like dark skin to begin with?

That was my first thought too. Alfie is the same colour as the boys and if you part his fur it normally looks light close to his skin. Where there are patches of regrowth though it can look like the skin is dark.
