  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Xeno (the spray one)

Is it ok to use it as a preventative measure? I keep finding little red bites on me like just before last time they had mites so I'm suspicious of our last bale of hay (which is now finished) and just wondering whether it would be an idea to spray them all as a preventative measure or leave their own immune systems to deal with it. They aren't showing any symptoms.

i only do mine if showing symtpoms purely because i dont want their bodies to become immune to the ivermectin and not work when i need it to. but every one is differnet. also if the hay is the issue i think id chuck that one and get a new lot (preventioni better than cure and al lthat!!) x

The hay's finished now anyway, by the time I realised we'd got through it, we get through a bale in about 3-4 weeks now  Not sure where they are putting it :lol: I might have to start leaving it out on the grass on a tarp for a while again to let the little critters get away. :?

I'll let them fight it off with their immune systems I think and keep a good eye on them. First sign I'll use the spray.
