Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sneezing!

Young Bun
I lost my precious girl Thumper over two weeks ago. She was an old rabbit and a chest infection became too difficult for her to shift :(

Now I am paranoid about all my other buns - my little boy sneezed once when I let him out this morning - could be hay I suppose as he was sniffing around.

Think that he has done it again because he is out downstairs with me - but again he is sniffing around the living room!

He has no discharges, eating and drinking as normal and still his naughty self! - just wondered if this is normal? When should I consider it a problem?

Really anxious!

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your elderly bun Thumper.:(

Sometimes buns do have a sneeze with hay up their nose but I would keep an eye on the bun that sneezed and all your other buns just in case.
As far as I know a chest infection is not contagious?

sue:wave:

I'm sorry to hear about Thumper :( We have a section called Rainbow Bridge where we remember our buns and other animals if you would like to make a post, it's right at the bottom of the forum page.

I don't know much about chest infections or transmission but I know that buns certainly sneeze when going about, especially when in different environments. Some buns can sneeze when a new bag of hay is opened, I'm assuming the dust gets up their nose!

I would keep an eye on it as it can be a symptom of a more serious condition, just keep watching his health and behaviour. As well as respiratory tract problems it can also be an indicator of heart conditions, our little girl started sneezing before she was diagnosed with an enlarged heart. HOWEVER she had additional symptoms of laboured breathing, repeated sneezing, went off her food and became lethargic so don't panic, it is unlikely. If it's just the odd sneeze I wouldn't worry about it, most of my buns have done this

Thank you :D
Know I am probably paranoid  plus don't want to keep going back and forth to the vets if they are ok as I know that this stresses them out!

I will keep an eye on him - he is due to be neutered on Monday so I want him fighting fit!

Will add Thumps name to Rainbow Bridge
