My friend has a six year old female rabbit. My friend is concerned because her rabbits nipple/teats are swollen. She is not spayed and is not nesting and has not had contact with any other rabbits, their garden is secure and free range time is supervised.

A little background. Her bunny lives outdoors in a two tier hutch with permeant run and free range time.
A couple of weeks ago she lost her bonded partner to a suspected lung tumour, he was the same age and neutered. since the loss of her bonded partner the family and been spending as much time with her as possible including extra indoor free range time.

Any suggestions as they would like to avoid the stress of a vet visit if possible.

As the Doe is unspayed she is at high risk of both Uterine Cancer and Mammary Tumours. So personally I think a Vet check is essential.

Thanks Jane
I'll break that news to my friend first thing. I had already mentioned about uterine cancer as she's not spayed, they didn't know any different when they got her. I do hope it's not bad news.

I'm not sure about her vets so I'm hoping she'll go to mine instead.

Hmmm I would also think along the lines of mammary tumors or some sort of problem relating to the glands.

Definitely best get a vet just to check.
