Vet bills

Fifibutton

Wise Old Thumper
I was at the vet today getting booster vacs for my 6 older buns. Vet was very impressed with their health and ages, I was so puffed up with pride
Anyway it was £160 for myxi vaccs today which sounds a lot but I put a wee bit by each month into a bunnie savings fund so I don't have cause to worry there. But it got me thinking about veterinary costs.

I'm now in my 10th year of keeping bunnies and its been 10 year sof vet trips. I've also kept every single receit from the vet and categorised them by year in a big folder (sad I know ). Anyway I totalled every bill up from these past 10 years and was surpised to see it only amounted to £3000. My vet isn't too cheap tbh so I expected the total to be more like £10,000.

Is anyone else as sad as me and keeps all their bills? Its quite interesting to read back and see what rabbits need which treatment etc. Sometimes you see a pattern emerge.

How many buns were being vaccinated ?

Don't ask. In 12 years have had a total of 9 animals. 1 cat, 5 rabbits and 3 chinchillas. For years, at least 10 years paid very little.

Last 2 years. For 2 pets only, nearly £3,000.00. Not even major illnesses or disease or accidents.

Last year my aunt was seriously ill and I looked after her cat. Cat was obviously ill. Total normal vet fees in about a month £2,000.00 the specialist for 5 days was nearly £3,000.00. Her cat had a tumour that was inoperable and had to be pts.

She had insurance.

I had 6 buns at the vet today. They are due back in 3 weeks for their VHD's but the vet does a discount so I shall be paying a little less than.

I've had 15 bunnies in the last 10 years, 8 of which are now at the bridge and all before their time :(

Wow, you have had high bills. I'm sorry about your aunt's cat, what a shame :(

I feel really lucky because *touch wood* I've never had any dental/cancer/snuffles issues which I know can really push the prices up. Not that its about money for me. Instead its been stasis thats responsible for some of my bridge babies  I wish I could wipe that condtion off the face of this earth.

Sorry you did say 6 at the beginning of your thread.

Was very sad about my aunts cat, she was only over 2 years old. I don't know whether its because her cat was a Ragdoll and from a terrible breeders. Her stupid son took her there.

My aunt also passed away in July. She was the only family member that understood the true meaning of animal love, like people on RU.

I have kept a spreadsheet since we moved to Trinity vets (no reason for that timing except that when we changed vets I decided that I would pay all the rabbits bills myself whereas before we split it between my Dad and me). In the two years or so it's come to about £1,000 roughly which isn't bad considering Mischa has had sniffles and Nutmeg had to have a wound stitched up after failed bonding.

You know, I don't think I want to know how much Grim has cost me. I might ask the vets to tell me sometime, but I swapped vets so I'd have to ask both of them. I'll tell RU if I ever have the guts to find out.

I keep all my receipts so I may have a tot up later and see what it comes to

Ive been lucky as I havent had any major illnesses to deal with, apart from one episode of stasis after jose's spay
