  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Advice please - rabbit mourning loss of mate?

My sister in-laws bunny lost her mate (winky) a couple months ago to E.Cunicul - the remaining bunny (fudge) is ok and the vet has confirmed she has not been effected by the disease. However since winky died fudge has not been herself, she used to be a really friendly happy rabbit but now she is shy and looks sad, she is definitely not her "normal" self. I am worried for fudge because one of my rabbits "gave up" and died shortly after her mate died. They have another bunny - Treacle, who is in the run next to her but they cannot be put together as they fight! Is there anything any of you can suggest that can help fudge's mourning? It's really sad to see her like this and she's not even my bunny!! Thank you :(

Some rabbits seem to suffer more than others, I have a cuddly toy i put in for them to snuggle and groom whilst they are morning. I do tend to get the another bunny budy when i feel the time is right though .

Awww, that's a real shame. I'm in the same situation with my boy since he lost his brother. Are Fudge and Treacle both neutered?
