Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

dental issues.....how much baby food to use?

Hi ava had rather horrendous dental yesterday and is one extremely lucky lady.
My vet nicked the big blood vessel in her mouth by accident so had to cauterise it. Now obviously she's quite sore she's on metacam, metocloprimide and fibre plex my big problem now is as she's sore she's refusing to eat but she's starving

Just looking for advice on how much baby food to feed at s time? She's lapping it out of the syringe but I don't want to overload her tummy. She also has some e-cuniculi issues at minute and has bit of fever so she does need bit of a higher calorie intake any advice much appreciated.

Can you syringe Critical Care or liquidised pellets as the Baby food has very little essential fibre and her guts may suffer as a result.

I would aim at syringing 10ml/kg every couple of hours.

Is she on antibiotics ?

The critical care I can't get in its to bitty for her although have managed to get her to take some from a teaspoon yes she's also on septrin

I use the Critical Care FORMULA (white powder) , rather than the Critical Care made by Oxbow, which I find impossible to get in a syringe.

At the moment for my little bun I syringe around 30 excel pellets ground and made into a slurry with water and a teaspoon of pureed apple, and a scoop of critical care (1 scoop per day per 1kg body weight) , split over three sessions.

I use a mixture of Oxbow Critical Care (you can buy a Fine Grind version if the normal one is too bitty), a little Ellas Kitchen veggie baby food, and warm water. My buns seem to quite like the taste of this recipie

My one bunny hated critical care so he had alot more baby food (Hipp Organic Apple and Pear) than he did rabbit food. The vet said that he would be having plenty of fibre because I was giving him Fibreplex. You should be able to get that in your vets. :)

Good luck.
