  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

what age is a bunny classed as being old. Just me thinking too far forward as usual but Cookie my Dutch is now 7 1/2. Wouldn't think he was that age if you saw him running like the wind up and down his 18ft run on the lawn :lol: Hope I am not tempting fate but never really had any probs with him except for 2 visits for a poorly tum (stressed out due to going to vet earlier in the day for jabs)

Are there any particular ageing probs to start looking out for (I do like to be prepared)

I reckon Cookie is probably nearly 'old' but I've seen some bunnies age far better than many other species. Plus, from what I can work out, dutches are one of the longest living species.

I reckon though that a good measure of old age is to look at the bunny and work out if they feel old. If not, then don't worry. I had a very 'old' 4 year old nethie, and a very 'young' 9 year old lop.

thanks Sky, I know I am looking for things but just the way being a bun mum makes you, always on your guard and after the year I have had so far with family illnesses and stuff I am just waiting for the next thing to happen. There isn't enuff paper in the world to type on, describing what I have been through since last Autumn:lol:

I like your description as "nearly old":lol::lol:
