Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bald Patch Just Above Tail - ???

We have just been grooming our dwarf nethie who was very raggedy and tufty! We noticed then that she has a real bald patch just above her tail about the size of a 50p - couldn't see any mites or anything and no bald patches anywhere else. Has anyone seen this before or may know what it could be?? It's just pink skin and not red, inflamed or sore looking

It could still be mites. I would seek vet opinion.

We don't groom them that often or obsessively so i wouldn't say it was that - but will have another good look - anyone else had this happen?

Hi suzibunbun, I had the same as you a couple of months ago - my minilop had a smooth skinned bald patch just above his tail and then started pulling out his fur around his chin - I thought i couldn't see anything either but was definitely mites. After 3 fortnightly treatments of Xeno 450 (half the price online compared to the £80 I paid at the vets - enough for both my buns even though my other bun was fine, just to be safe) his fur grew back and he seems much happier now - he was constantly scratching and grooming.

You say he is raggedy and tufty - that is EXACTLY how Bobbin was (and still is a bit!) - I think it was chylietella (not sure on speling) that the vets said it was - fur mites.
