Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Luna is a year old Netherland Dwarf and last night we noticed a pure white spot in her eye .. surrounded if you look carefully, with red veins ..

Any idea?

I should add .. she's in excellent health otherwise and shares a cage with Benji who adores her very much.

What is the usual treatment for Uveitus? I have just beein given Fucithalmic.
Dexter has just come up with this also, he has always had a red mark on his eye and head tilt since EC but a white blob appeared yesterday

Can this still be the EC? Even though he had a 5 day course of Lap last week and has had every month since he had the EC.

Sorry to hi jack thread.

No Mich .. please don't worry.

Just come back from the vets and she put some drops in Luna's eye and had a good look. SHe showed me where, just under the white dot, there is some red vessels and she thinks Luna could have been poked in the eye.

We're hoping that the ulcer, which is what the white thing is, will be helped and treated with FUCITHALMIC and I'm to take her back next week to ensure she's keeping ok.

The vet said she has likely lost some sight in that eye but so long as she doesnt get an infection, she wont lose it altogether. (Her eye that is, not her sight)

could just be scar tissue from being poked (my barney has some scarring in a line from where his eye was poking out)? if yes the fucithalmic will help but if not i dont think its very strong

My Anky, also a netherland dwarf about the same age also has this. The vet told me that it is an abscess resulting from an EC lesion in her eye. Like your bun she is in great health, bonded and has no other sympton. She has had the full 28 day course of panacur, baytril and metacam and now two courses of zithromax. The zithromax has reduced it quite alot but it is still there. My vet now wants to take her eye out to prevent the possibility of infection spreading out the eye and elsewhere in the body. I have to say Anky's white mark wasn't as big as your buns. Good luck, I'll be following this thread with interest as despite trawling the internet when Anky's first appeared I've never been able to find out that much about EC causing lesions in the eye. Out of interest I don't suppose your bun is from the Melton area of Leicestershire? I rescued Anky from the horse sales there.

Thanks Jack's Jane, they are really interesting :) And interestingly they don't suggest eye removal. Anky shows more signs of being able to see out her poorly eye after two rounds of zithromax. Also intersting how saffy's bun has a different diagnosis with exactly the same symptons, I think I prefer Saffy's diagnosis!

She's still doing fine. The white spot is still there but it's not affecting her behaviour or eating, drinking .. adding the ointment daily but the vet said so long as she was happy and eating and drinking then just keep on doing what we're doing.

I do worry about the possibility of having her eye taken out due to anasthetic as she took ages to come round from her neuter. Fingers crossed.

Hmm .. when I took Luna to the vet initially she said it was possibly something that stuck in her eye and came out, but has left an ulcer ... now I'm not so sure .. I thnk it's EC. Comparing her picture to others with EC, she's exactly the same.

This white patch (like a paint splat) in her eye has got bigger now. She is still fine in herself.

I phoned the vets again and the receptionist has booked her in with a vet who specialises in eye problems, so am taking her there, though I've also got an appointment with the vet in Matlock for tomorrow evening as I'd be interested to hear what they both say.

Your doing the right thing by getting an optometrist to check her eyes out.
My ruby had UV and is now blind because the normal vet just thought it was an infection. I wasn't happy with this a got referred. Sadly she will be blind but we have caught it before it spreads to her brain etc.

Sorry to hear the mark on her eye has grown. I hope with the specialist help your bun gets better soon. When Anky had it diagnosed as EC the panacur and then zithromax seems to have been quite effective. Out of interest do you think she can see out of it? I know when Anky's grew I didn't think she could but now it has shrunk she is using it again. Good luck xx
