Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rex care

seeing as poppet looks and feels rexy were treating her as she is (vet recons so too)
what do we bed her on and are there rex related health issues i should cater for?

From what I read before getting a bunny, rex bunnies are pretty hardy regarding health.

I think you have to keep an eye out for sore hocks but that may be a myth.

Is she in inside or outside bunny?

My Rex is the healthiest rabbit I've had, no medical problems whatsoever, no vets visits except for vacs and no sore hocks, shes on concrete too! Just a very beautiful healthy rabbit! Be aware but I wouldn't worry about a problem, just keep an eye out as you would do for all rabbits :)

Hi,it may be a 'coincidence' but certainly one you need to look out for, sadly both my rexes suffered problems with stasis and eventually blockages:cry: it doesn't mean to say however that your little poppet will. My vet also suspects that rexes are possibly prone to gut problems.Sorry as it's not my intention to panic you but forewarned is forearmed as they say;) Hopefully your bunny will be perfectly healthy. Such a beautiful breed:love:

Rexes are very prone to sore hocks because the guard hairs on their feet are so fine and don't offer much padding/protection on hard surfaces.

With any other breed, I would say to just be aware of sore hocks as a potential problem. With rexes, however, I believe it's advisable to prevent the problem occuring in the first place as that's far easier than treating the problem.

thanks guys ill change her over to fleece then, just with her being under weight and her legs are boney..
so dont want it affecting her.:)
