Hello as title suggests really - I need a rabbit savvy vet in my area which is Havant which is near Portsmouth.
I am currently banging my head on a brick wall trying to treat my rabbit Caitlin for abscesses with a vet who only prescribes euthanasia grr.
I have got standard Baytril and I'm daily bathing but need something else if she's to beat this.
Hope you can help x x x Clara

I live in Havant too. I use Purbrook Vets but am considering changing as I am not sure the vet is as bunny savvy as I would like.

I think Debbie (purplebumble) uses Downland Veterinary Group for her bunsters.

If you need any help with your furball just PM me. I would be happy to come over and give you a hand. One of my cats, Tigger, had a horrendous abscess on his face that just wouldn't clear up. We got there in the end but it kept coming back.

Does Caitlin have pain relief too?

One of my Facebook friends has suggested St Peter's vets in Petersfield (although that is a way away).

Hello
I use St Peters Vets as The Duchess mentioned. They are very good there and I try to get John Wakefield as he is a small animal specialist. He bought my Ernie back from the brink last year.
I hope Caitlin will be o.k xx

hmmph....st peters vets is why my cat died last july...significant heart disease..they termed it as a mild heart murmur....if hed had meds in time hed still be here..and i have had no end of probs with buns treatment there...stasis lost our beloved oscar...cause relied on vets treatement..grr

i was recommended by gem to use DOWNLAND veterinary group..they have clinics in havant and leigh park..emsworth is where merlin goes for dentals and was in for a week nealry lost him..they were great....and with bertie theyve been so helpful and understanding....i just have to stop one of the nurses and one of the vets from running off with bertie and merlin respecfully:lol::lol:

if you have a single rabbit..you could try animed in cowplain but it is only a consult clinic.

the main hospital for downlands is bognor....but i only go to emsworth and i share the treatment with animed..share notes etc....animeds main hospital is shedfield near wickham so emsorth is much closer for me and a tenner cheaper taxi ride too!!
downlands are opening a clinic in denmead in june hopefully:wave: they took over an old car dealership building.

i have used claire...nikki..and saski regularly and have seen britta a few times....ben once...but i wasnt comfy with him....the senior chap davids lovley with a wonderful sense of humour...nurses are great...receptionisst are lovely too..they have to put up with me!!

the vet at animed is called stephanie and the receptionist is lyn..but i think both are going away for a 2 week stint...im not sure.

if you go to downlands tell them its the bloomin rabbit site again sending customers their way:lol:

:wave::wave:
So sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at St Peters, Debbie. I can only speak from my experience and I have no complaints. All that matters is that you have a vets that you are happy with xx

Pablo Fuentes Bugnone at Companion Care Fareham (Inside P@H store at Park Gate)
He is my vet and rabbit savy :D

Thankyou ladies :D You've given me lots to choose from and think about.
I'm currently using Harbour vets and so far they've been brilliant with my speys and neuters but this abscess has made me distrust them.

I'm also wondering if I had a previous rabbit pts for no reason. I tried to hand raise a litter of 3 kits after their mother was killed by a fox when they were 5 days old and 1 died after a week but the other two were raised successfully. When they were 3 months old one broke her leg (they were very small and fragile due to being hand raised) and Harbour vets said the break couldn't be fixed and I trusted what I was told and she was pts :( I was also told she wouldn't survive an amputation because of her fragility. Baby her name was and I was heartbroken.
