Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. winston pg 4 u/d miracles do happen :)

winnies angel

Mama Doe
Well him and angel were pushed in on thurs both needing dentals (origiannly the earliset app was tues, 2 weeks away from when I tried to get them in) both were in bad way.
Anyway due to having GA winston has been kept on panacur for EC for another 10 days but the vet is happy with his progress and does not need to see him anymore (I had to talk to nurse who then went to ask vet questions as they had just shoved us in and vet wasn't available)
my concern is I said he is still having dificulty manouvering on his back left leg and scrunches it up in as though hes on pain. Nurse says as he's now back on metacam it should be ok. But I want to know whats a matter with his leg. She said usually the symptoms wouldn't go and return (which somedays hes ok just got limp others hes stretching his back/legs out as though he cant get comfy) I've made another appointment for 1o days time when he comes off panacur but what else can I do, vet doesn't seem to think theirs a problem but hs not himself leg wise. (although he done his first leap in over 2 months yesterday)
I was thinking of seeing a holistic vet who specialises in backs/acupuncture what would you do or say to your vet? (my vets really good and bunny clued up but if shes not worried then should I not be? could it just be arthritis spreading he has it in his toe?)
sorry any ideas is great.

It could very well be arthritis Grace is starting with it and keeps lifting her front leg up and putting it down again we have her on metacam and if she is no better in a few weeks she is going back for a x-ray.

If we had to I'd certainly go for acupuncture anything that might help is a plus.

Just ask for a referral to a holistic vet  I am always asking my vet for things even when he thinks nothing is wrong, I am really lucky though that he listens to me and treated Jasmine straight away even though he wanted me to wait and see if more food helped.

I'm sure your vet won't be offended, they will know you know Winston better than anyone.

I just want to know whats a matter. It all started after his myxi jab and thats why they were all put on emergencys treatment for EC but shes never said whether its still that or not.
Its difficult to explain its his left leg and when he sits his knee joint sticks out away from his body not tucked in like other one.
I think I would prefer x-ray just to be sure he hasn't hurt anything. Nurse was like well after treatment he should be fine, I said hes been on treatment for past month she said oh. Yep OH answers my worry!

I know a vet down the road who does it without referals and believes in AC's so I can tell him what Winston is telling me which is great. I'm waiting for the lady who talks to win to chat and hopefully confirm what I'm picking up. I just want to be sure hes not in pain mainly all its been is worry worry worry.

Sorry I don't have any advice. I hope you can get some answers soon. Hope you're OK. Sending lots of vibes for Winston xx

Hi Jo,Im a bit worried that your vet is saying Winston is alright when you can see hes not.Do you have a holistic vet in your area that specialises in bunnies, mine wont as he says he cant understand them?
If you want Winnie to have an x-ray I would ask as hes obviously not right.Sending vibes his way xxxx

I've been in touch with holistic vet waiting reply left message. My friend has spoken with winston going to update me later but he def has problem and is scared doesn't want acupuncture he wants to try 'remedies first' hes on Hypericum at mo but she'll tell me what else to give and obv I'll find out if I was right with what hes telling me. I'm back at our vets on monday so going to explain to her what I'm getting/he's telling me and go from there as our vet is normally really good and acts on what buns are telling me but I could only pass messages through nurse last week so whether they have explained the situation like I said hence why made appointment. Really worried because I was tormenting him yesterday and touched his hip area where he bit me thats not my winston!

Sorry I've nothing constructive to add but I do hope you get to the bottom of it and he is feeling better soon.

Well winston had a bad day yesterday he was laying around a lot which seems to make him dead stiff. He tried to get up but his left leg wouldn't work properly and he fell over then he went to go outside and stumbled again. Once he got moving he began to dance about in garden but I was really worried that I was going to get to vets today instead of monday but he seems to be doing ok today.
Spoke to our friend and winston has told her similar to what he said to me his waist is where the problem is and hes saying its the nerves in his spine.
He actually keeps saying hes been poisoned ny the injection (so just incase its in his head hes having a herbal remedy for after vaccinations.) He wants to try the remedies over weekend and if no better go to acupuncture next week. Obv see our vet on monday.
He also said about the injection hurting him and now his neck is really stiff where it went in h said to rub his neck massage which I did and I have found a lump of bloody skin where the injection would have went then it goes further down his back.
Daft questions but is it possible for a myxi vacc to stab a nerve in the back?
If he has a problem with nerves how/what can be done to find this out or what meds would be used to see if they would be helpful and whats the timescale of fixing nerve damge? (We have to honour what he says even if it sounds mad so I can at least tell him ive looked)

Hi Jo,yes it is possible for the injection to hit a nerve.I would say keep using the metacam to bring down the inflammation.keep using the herbal remedy for the vaccine. The only way you are going to see what is going on properly is to have an MRI scan.I have said my bit via PM and I think you should listen to what Winnie is telling you xxxxxHow is he this afternoon

PS Tess saw Margrit Coates the other day and she told her that the vaccines had made her really poorly,so Im glad I stuck by my guns on this one xxxx

Well he's been quiet today and doing loads of stretching of his back. He's getting very bitey which isnt like him. I rang vets but theyre full so asked if I can double up his pain relief until monday with his ec meds and they said thats fine.
Its awful to watch him as his leg is really bending in awful directions now its not turning as fast as him so his foots pointing in wierd direction until he turns it. But he seems fine once he gets moving hes hopping/running and leaping he even came upstairs this morn to see me.
I'm so pee'd off I'm giving him blumin ec stuff and I dont even think thats whats wrong and never did yet had to pay all that money for all of them to go on the stuff I cant help feeling that I'm making his leg worse by leaving it and I feel awful knowing I dont know what to do. I'll never forgive myself if hes damaged something and its too late to fix (been reading horror stories on internet esp about nerve damage.)
:cry::cry:
my other halfs like hes fine hell be ok but what if hes not. I know he said he is but its just awful watching him struggle. Hes that bad that he said he doesn't even want to go and meet people during national rabbit week which is something he loves to do "how can people see how gorgeous I am if they dont touch me!" my winstons having a poop time.

Please dont blame yourself,I know how much you love your animals xxxx.I dont think Winston has ec either. If he has an injury it would be best to keep him confined for a few days,no going upstairs or running about to much as this could make it worse.I think your right to up the metecam you can also split it so he can have two doses a day and this should give the inflammation time to settle down.Thinking of you and sending healing vibes Winston's way xxxxx
Please try not to panic your doing everything you can for him

Fuming just been to vets and the nurses have not been passing on my worries. Vet has checked him and said he is in 'excrutiating pain' she cant tell whats up as all his back/legs are in spasm and solid. She def thinks its his hip and possible arthritis but he needs x-rays which is too risky as he has just had dental. If she had of got the message he would have been put straight under for x-rays!
Hes now on highest pain relief she can give him (by mouth no more needles) and hes back on thurs and possibly going to do conscious x-ray.
I'm so annoyed as I have let him be in this pain for well over a month and they weren't listening she still says the def thinks he had neurological problem and this aswell but obv thought this was linked to the first problem (i dont) and then she said so this has just started after his dental? NO this has been going on for over a month, oh the origianl problem, YESfinally!
He needs pain relief asap and went out to get it!
Poor little man grrrr
