Boarding and illness

For anyone who runs boarding or has had a bun take ill whilst boarding.

Do you get people to sign a disclaimer in case a rabbit god forbid dies in your care or needs emergency vet treatment and a statement to say they agree to vet treatment and the bill?

I am hoping to start a small boarding business soon and was wondering about this as for example my Molly was fine on the Saturday, ill on the Sunday and had to be PTS on the Tuesday and basically there was nothing that could be done.

The place I board my bunnies is insured so that any vet bills needed are covered. I just have to sign something to say I give her permission to take my pets to the vet if necessary.

All rabbits that come boarding at mine are covered by Petplan Insurance. It is a really good policy. It doesn't cover pre existing conditions but petplan sort that out with the owner. Definately worth having the insurance, as it also puts the owners mind at ease knowing they are insured if something does happen.

We get our customers to sign to say we have their permission to seek veterinary advice/treatment for their pet should the need arise ( and that they will be liable for the cost) and to take any action necessary for their pet's well being :)

I think I might look into that :)

We are boarding our rabbits in June and have a disclaimer to sign, however I am leaving my petplan insurance details and have given my permission for any vet treatment, although I want to be consulted unless consulting me leads to a delay in getting treatment.

Thanks.

Anymore general tips about running boarding would be gratefully received. I only want to take in up to 2 pairs at a time but want to do it properly.

Same here.

My Daisy had a bad stasis episode when at Sarah-Janes (XMissyXJX). I was in Egypt at the time and had also left my Dads number if she couldnt get hold of me. Her vets allowed us to pay the bill directly over the phone. Sarah-Jane or her mum used to text daily to let me know how my fur babies were and that is a great help as Im so stressed at having to leave them, more so now since Daisys episode! I dont know your personal situation but I think its very important to have somebody at home with the bunnies all the time just to check on them and incase something happens and they need medicating/looking after through the day.

Mum is very excited to see them again  she loves them!

We have a few options to suit different people, but alot of people leave a contact who could/would pay over the phone on their behalf, etc. Some people put me as a named person on their insurance so i can claim if need be etc etc.

I agree, Mum noticed Daisy very quickly and she was up the vet within ten minutes. Her stasis was very sudden and severe very quickly - in my opinion a good boarder is one who would go to the vet out of hours, who would go that bit extra . Mum dropped fresh herbs etc off at the vet the next morning for Daisy to help encourage her etc.

Were not a fancy boarder by any means, were like a home from home who would go that bit further and i think people like that.

:)

Thats what I want to be, not stacking hutches up just taking in a couple at a time so I can look after them as I do my own buns. I don't think there are any boarding places round here that specialise in buns, they are an add on!
