Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Neutering advice needed

Well, kinda long story but I'm picking up two (unwanted by a neighbour:censored:)buns on Sat, they are brother and sister now 11 weeks old. I have been told I can keep them together for now but must get them neutered before they are 17 weeks old? Is this correct or should I go with my gut feeling and seperate them as soon as they come home, bearing in mind they are still in the same hutch at the moment at my friends house and also they are to be a bonded pair in the end? I've also been told boy buns can still father babies 5 weeks afer neutering is this true?? Hope you can help as I'm just very confused :)

yes they will need separating straight away and yes he will need to stay away from her for about 5/6 weeks after neuter

Thanks for this, I'm now thinking of just picking up the boy but then feel really bad for leaving the little girl behind as I really can't risk more bunnies if she comes to me already pregnant - I'm a bit of a soft touch you see and I'd end up keeping them all

She is highly unlikely to be pregnant at 11 weeks, but if you feel you an't home them both separately, or can't deal with the minimal chance she is pregnant, then its far better to take what you know you can deal with, which is the boy. In due course you can maybe adopt him a girlfriend :)
