  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just when I thought he was a Happy Easter bunny Petie has a gassy belly and is picking at his food again.............
Oh well, this rabbit will be back to the vet tomorrow.....Hoppy Easter I don't think...........

I really hope he can pick up and improve and stabilise soon. Sending positive vibes for him.

Thanks,
sure the vet will think I'm taking the p@* tomorrow taking them an Easter Bunny....he's not a happy one though!!!!!
If I can get him through til the end of the week it's bunny basics here we come with their pappaya and pineapple supplement!!!!!

 You can get pineapple and papaya sweet things from garden centres around here (not Oxbow). In fact mine didn't like them when they changed the Oxbow ones - will check if I have any for you or if I binned them. They loved the original ones.

Also, you can get the tabs from health shop for now if you are desperate. Just watch sugar content. Freshly squeezed pineapple via syringe should do the trick though (if it does work).

Really sorry to hear this sending lots of vibes. I've found when Sparky has a funny turn if I put a small drop of infacol in his water that seems to help.

Was there any investigations into original cause? Has Petie been on continuing gut motility drugs since last episode?

Infacol needs to be given direct into the mouth at a dose of 1ml generally for the simeticone to be effective. 1 drop in water will do very little.

Oh and no, he had meds for 4 days then the vet said stop them so he developed symptoms off meds (although he has been having pineapple juice regularly)
