  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
right now hes (Mr Sanguinelo Fluffy Tumness/sandy!) spending the night at the vets. He's unable to move his backlegs under his body, they drag behind, hes not eating properly and I think he has slight head tilt. if he doesn't improve he'll prob be put to sleep, if theres no improvement the same, but if he improves he might not. vet gave him antibiotic, antiinflamotry and pain releif. may go for xray in night. He was breathing v fast but maybe because he was scared and not in control. if he doesnt improve, would it be worth getting some rabbit wheels?! advice on what to do if he does improve? (looking after him etc, as its unlikely he'll gain full movement right away) and what could have caused it? vet thinks hes slipped a disc or something but im not sure as he didnt finish his food last night? xx

Sounds like EC which my Wesley had about 2 years ago. He lost his balance. It was a long recovery but he was on antibiotics, antiflamatory and panacur. Some rabbits can move about by dragging their back legs along.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along soon but sending get well vibes for your bunny.

ooh I just looked that up and it does sound like it could be... I'll see if the vet can test him tomorrow and maybe give him some pancur :)

They usually give a 28day course of panacur for EC. I would wait a couple of months to see if the panacur has worked.
your vet might want to do an xray to exclude the possibility of any spinal injury first. Also the vet may want to start him on panacur straight away as test results can take a while.

I do hope your bun gets well soon.
