Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sulking or ill?

Hello.

My trio have been living inside through the colder months and going outside during the day. Yesterday we finally finished their new outdoor setup - it's a 10x 6 foot patio area. This meant that we moved their cage outside into it, so they finally moved out for the summer. However, Otis is not eating. I have tried dandilion, rocket (his favourite food), yoghurt drops and some SS. He is not having any of it. He is drinking - from a bowl. He is staying in the cage and not making the most of his new area. He looks sad and depressed.

I have syringe fed him some critical care this morning because I haven't seen him eat anything since last night. Otis has never spent a night outside so could he be sulking or could he have health issues? It wasn't cold last night and he did have the other two buns with him.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tanya :)

I would get him straight to a vet for examination. The fact he isn't eating should be ringing alarm bells, especially if he's ignoring his favourite foods.

When Otis doesn't like something he sulks and does this by refusing to eat - even his favourite treats. Usuually, within a couple of hours he gets over it and starts to eat again.

However, this time he still is not eating. He has had some Metacam and ate ONE rocket leaf. I have also syringe fed him again. My rabbit savvy vet is away on holiday and my second savvy vet is also away.:( If the Metacam doesn't work I am off to see a vet - in the next couple of hours.

We have been to the vet. They don't think it is his teeth causing the lack of appetite. He is on metacam and metrclopromide. He has managed to eat some rocket and a bit of celery so far. Just waiting for the poops. ;)
