  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

When to vacinate

Hi i have a baby bunny who is 8 weeks old. She is having a health check at the vets on monday and i have been told they need yearly vacinations. How old do they need to be for them? Thanks

I took my bun to the vet at about 10 weeks, and he had his myxi jab straight away. Then they do the VHD jab 2 weeks later.

Myxomatosis Vaccine can be done from 6 weeks

There are different VHD Vaccines available, you'll need to establish which one your Vet uses.

LAPINJECT VHD Vaccine can be done from 5 weeks but personally I would not have it done til 10 weeks

ANIVAC VHD Vaccine can be given from 10 weeks

CYLAP VHD Vaccine can be given from 10 weeks *BUT PERSONALLY I WOULD NOT TOUCH THIS VACCINE WITH A BARGE POLE DUE TO THE FREQUENCY OF ADVERSE SIDE EFFECTS I HAVE SEEN*

Jane, do you have an info sheet or a link to a site that explains the risks of Cylap, maybe with a few pictures? My sister is a vet and their practice uses Cylap. I'm trying to get some info together for her to show to her bosses.

Thanks everyone. Going to book her in after the bank holidays are out of the way. I dont want her to have the CYLAP VHD vaccine as i have googled it and didnt like what i saw!! :(
