  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit savvy vets in and around the Bolton area

The only one that I've been to so far that I've liked and trusted is the RSPCA one in Manchester/Salford. The problem though is that it's a bit far to travel, long waiting times when you get there, and, as of recently, now only available to people who are retired/unemployed/on certain benefits, whereas before it was for people who couldn't afford huge vet bills (vet wanted to charge me £500 for an op on my cat, RSPCA did it for £75 plus a donation.)

Any one know of good rabbit vets around Bolton/Chorley. Even Bury?

This is probably only good if you have a car cause it's in walley range, but I use Ashleigh exotic vets. One of their vets, Sarah, is brilliant with buns (shes got her own bunnies at home). There prices are fair considering they specialise in exotic pets. Got George neutered for £50 (other places wanted to charge me £90) but if you don't have a car it would probably be a nightmare cause you'd have to get into town and then take the 86 to chorlton.

Sorry if this hasn't been very helpful. Hope you find a vet soon xxx
