Rabbit not putting weight on back leg

gwaterhouse

Wise Old Thumper
Hi there,

Yesterday we noticed that our rabbit (Zoidberg), was not putting weight on his back foot when he was walking, he's still moving around and this morning he does seem to be a bit better, but we're going to book an appointment at the vets for tomorrow/saturday.

I was wondering if anyone had any idea what it could be? I've felt the leg and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it, i can't feel a break or anything, and he doesn't seem to be in pain when i do it. One thing i have noticed is that one of his claws seems to be loose, like you can move it away from the others, whereas he doesn't allow you to move the others... so maybe this is affecting his walking.

He's had all his claws cut etc. so it's not that... Just a bit worried about him

we've managed to get an appointment at the vets for 6.20 this evening. it's the only time we could make it with work :(

hopefully he'll be okay.

any ideas about what treatment there is etc? and if he'll be alright?

Im not sure, but if you find its something more sinister and they recommend amputation then please dont be put off.

This is how a bun moves with 3 legs. I show the video a lot because before I had the experience myself I always thought it would be kinder to put an animal to sleep. But noodle gets on just as well with 3!

aww noodle looks just like zoidberg :)

Thanks for the vids he/she looks adorable.

i'll let you know how the vet goes.... hope it's nothing too serious. :(

Just to let you all know that we went to the vets and he gave him some painkiller, we're going back today for an xray and they are going to assess if the claw/digit needs amputating :-(

Hopefully he'll be okay.

Thanks for all the advice.

Poor little chap

I am glad he now has pain relief and I hope his other treatment goes well.

Thank you for acting on the advice given re seeking prompt Veterinary attention, not everyone does sadly.

I hope the xray is positive but if he does need it amputating he should do really well. As Noodle demonstrated three legs is no problem so just one toe short won't cause any issues once it's healed up :)

He's okay :D:D He had to have the toe amputated, but a small price to pay :p

We've picked him up and moved him indoors for the next 3 days :)

We do have some meds to give him which we're not looking forward too lol, i'm sure we'll manage it though!

He's a bit dopey and isn't moving about much, but i think he's going to be okay :)

Ah, I'm really sorry he had to have his toe amputated but at the same time I am glad that its nothing more. Hopefully it wont affect him too much and he will recover in a few days on pain meds.

Are they syringe meds? Good luck with getting him to take them, if you need any help you know where to come for advice. :)
