Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Strange Noise

About a week ago I noticed our dutch bunny, Tilly, was making funny noises when she breathed.

We monitored her over the weekend, it didn't get worse, and she went to the vets on Tuesday. She wasn't making the noise all the time, more noticably when she was eating/stressed/excited. It also doesn't seem to be bothering her. She is still her bright self and eating/drinking and trouble making as usual.

The vet said its in her nose rather than in her chest and prescribed baytril twice a day for 8-10 days

I haven't noticed much of a difference, maybe a slight improvement 3 days into the baytril.

Just curious as to what anyone thinks it could be as I am stumped :?

Nope no nasal discharge

Noise is hard to describe....umm......sounds kinda like a snotty noise. Definatly sounds 'fluidy'

Its a really odd sound

I had a rabbit that sneezed quite a bit and then i found the problem,a piece of hay about 4 inches long up her nostril, how something that long got up there is a mystery.

She doesn't sneeze alot, just makes an odd kinda raspy/wheezy noise

Its really odd :S

casper had this on no nasal discharge he has snuffles on his lungs, he has antibiotic injections when he gets weezy now, seems to do the trick :) its like a wheezy and when he gets stressed or excited it sounds honky. he has them for about a months every 3 days, after the 3rd injection i notice a slight difference but it does take a month for it to completely go xx
