Spenser not eating - now eating a bit, post 26

susie bun

Wise Old Thumper
Spenser is now refusing even strawberry leaves, so he has a vet appointment for this afternoon. I have brought him in, and when I let him out of the crate he is VERY lively, under the desk, up on the bed and chair, molesting various toy bunnies and elephants ... not really behaving like an unwell bunny at all.:? His poos are, not surprisingly, very small and infrequent. In the circumstances I'm surprised anything is coming out. I'm wondering if the flops he has been doing lately are in fact not 'happy' flops at all? :?

Oh no. :( Doesn't sound like he's in stasis, Smudge is the very opposite of lively when in stasis. Maybe it is his teeth after all?

Now come on Spenser, stop frightening your Mum and eat your leaves.

A trip to the vets is already booked!!!!:shock:

Frankie and Estelle say................nom, nom, and an even bigger NOM, NOM!!

Fingers, toes and paws crossed for you.:love:

Thats quite a long time to wait if he might be in stasis, is there any way you could take him now? Tell them its an emergency and they will fit you in immediately.

I really hope he is feeling better soon.

That sounds suspiciously like Ginger has been for the past 2 days.

Her eating has been pathetic and is coming round from the dental as i type this.

Susie - do you have any metacam left?

If so, speak to the vet, and if he says okay, give him a dose and monitor him after.

If you have Metacam at home and have been instructed by the vet to use it, now might be a good time. Then, if he improves, you will know it is pain related and can feed that back to the vet when you go.

He has eaten half a bean and nibbled some hay. I tried to give him metacam last night, but he is off fengreek crunchies and impossible to hold (he bit me last time I tried). I managed to have a quick feel of his tummy, and its not hard.

What made you concerned enough to try and give him some Metacam last night?

I just thought he might be in pain somewhere as he was clearly going off his food. I got up at 3.30am to check on him in the hutch, but although he hadn't eaten/pooed he was rooting about in the lower hutch, seemingly quite the thing. :?

Good luck at the vet! Spenser's keeping you on your toes lately! :(
Spenser-start nomming for mummy!
millions&squillions of vibes coming your way...I won't be able to get on later to see an update and send more nommy vibes..so just have lots just now xx

Spenser bunneh you rascal, this had better not be a ploy to get your poor worried mummy to bring you indoors again!

Sending lots of nomming and pooing vibes. At least he's lively which is like Dudley was with his teeth, if its something more sinister they go downhill rapidly with no energy and arent themselves at all!

The vet has rung to ask questions about Spenser. She is going to give him a gut stimulant but if it doesn't work refer us to a specialist. Spenser has just eaten a small piece of apple and done a flop. :? He has perked up no end since coming indoors, and eaten a few strands of hay. Also done some more small and very dark poos.

Make sure they prescribe some Metacam too, being out of pain helps them start eating again much quicker!

Why do these bunnies keep doing this to us??

Come on Spencer be a good boy, hope you gets some answers soon Susie. It's such a worry when you don't know whats causing it
