Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Bunny Black Eye????

Can any one help with whats wrong with my bunnys last eye.

I noticed it looked sore a few days ago and thought i would just keep my eye on it. Well the other day it turned purple and today it's now gone black.

Have a look at pic, is it some sort of bruise?

This is his only eye and has always had a slight ulcer in it, but this has happened on the outside. It looks a bit gunky as i've put eye drops in, but what is the blackness?

If your bunny has not yet been to the vets I would make an appointment as soon as you can, as your bunny may need pain relief.

Let us know how he gets on at the vets?

Looks to be severely infected and there appears to be some necrotic tissue.

Only advice I can give is to get the poor Bun to a Vet TODAY

That could be an abcess, infected ulcer, could be from tooth root elongation.

Please take bun to a rabbit savvy vet. I can see puss in that picture, he must be in awful pain, please take him ASAP. :(

Poor bun, please let us know how you get on at the vets.

hi,

Yes bunny was taken to vet and i was told it was a scab. I've gone back as it's not changed and his actual eye is ulcered. I've also noticed that his ear looked infected and has now decided it's not a scab. Vets have given baytrill and i've got to take him back to have a biospy done.

What could it be?

No idea what it could be apart from what others have said (we are not vets so can only guess!) but it looks very painful. Poor thing. :(
I hope something can be done to help very soon though.

Poor bunny, that looks so sore! Did the vet give pain relief? I'm not sure I'd be very happy with a bunny looking like that being sent home with baytril, if I were you I think I would seek a second opinion as a matter of urgency. It looks necrotic to me and if it's spreading and infectious, it could easily and quickly become a systemic infection which could be very serious indeed. Good luck x
