Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Rabbit with teeth problems?

MichelleGsPets

Alpha Buck
My rabbit constantly has a wet chin for the past twoish days? Its just under her chin and you can only see it when he is begging for food and lifting his head up. Is this drooling as I always thought it would be the whole face being wet. But its just that spot.

Hes eatting all his food, though one thing I have noticed is that yesteray he took a bit of yellow bell pepper from the bowl and he just kept going around his cage for ages just with it in his mouth. I noticed him doing this last week or the week before aswell. Would that have anything to do with it as when I look up teeth problems it doesn't say anything about that.

All his food, veggies, hay and pellets are always ate. I'll look closly at him tonight though to make sure hes not in any pain when eatting etc.

I took him out and checked his front teeth and they look all good.

Oh I should say hes about 7/8ish months and a lionhead lop. He hasn't of had any health problems since I got him in November. He got neutered in February (25th) and two days before that I brought him down for a vet check and she said all was fine. She checked his front teeth but not his back though. He was cryptorchid (one testicle didn't drop) but hes recovering well from the operation and it all went smoothly.

So advice please.

It could be a dental problem, and if it was me I would be booking a vet's appointment as soon as possible to have his teeth fully checked. I am surprised your vet only checked the front teeth and not his back ones. Teeth would be my first thought but they may be other things it could be. Its good he is still eating but you dont want it to get to a point where he is in discomfort.

Yes. Thank you.

Well they told me they will check the teeth when theyre under the GA but when I was filling the form to give permission for the operations I ticked no, when I should of ticked yes so they never looked then. My fault tbh.

Oh I've never had to fill in a form of specific things they can and cant do - my vet just tells me verbally what she wants to do and then I just sign a general consent form. Must be different at different vets.

Your vet can check the back teeth in a routine appointment using a scope. Hope you get on ok.

At this vets on the consent form they have they have a couple of things like 'do you want us to check thier teeth and if needed to be cleaned' Do you want us to microchip' etc. Of course if you do it is all talked about with the vet before hand.
I talked about checking there back teeth but just clicked no on the day by accident.
