  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Spaying after pregnancy

So my vet said Matilda could be spayed in 4 weeks, however the baby is only 3 days old, surly it should be longer than this, or is it okay to get her spayed then? x

I would have said in 12 weeks at least. It is best to wait until the milk dries up and she has had a few weeks rest after raising the baby to make sure she is fit and healthy for the op.

hmm so im confussed now :/ who do i neut/spay first

i'd get smartie done first as he is fit and healthy to go.

then in a few months do matilda, then that should give you time to save for the baby doing if you are keeping him/her and wait until it's old enough... is that what you meant? :?

Tink was done about 10-12 weeks after having her babies. I personally wouldn't want to put a doe through a spay any sooner than that.

In normal circumstances the babies would leave mum at about 8 weeks, then give her a couple of weeks rest and then she should be ready.
