Do YOU have 2 buns?

Hoppit!

Wise Old Thumper
How much d'ya reckon it costs to keep 2 healthy buns for a year? Please take into account bedding, food, vaccinations, insurence and other necessities, but leave out extras like pressies and unforseen vet bills.

What would you say, on average?

hmmm
£20ish for each vaccination so £120 (vhd once a year, myxi every 6 months)
£20 for rearguard during summer, wormers £25 (I buy off computer)
Big bag of pellets £15 probably 3x a year = £45
Big bags of woodshavings (we just use it in pottys and use carpet in hutch) £7 (from farm) x4 = £28
Hay (depends how much each bun eats) £150
Greens (again depends on where you get them etc) about £20 a week so £1000
Insurance or savings for emergencies we save £20 each per month £480 (emergency vet visit is £120-30 just to get through door thats without treatment)
Treats, toys, blankets £100 per year

About £2000,00 but you dont think of that when you buy stuff
Obv your setting up of hutch about £150, bowls water bottles, £25, run £90

remind me not to work out costs infront of Ste again

insurance £270
hay lasts approx 6 weeks @ £6.50 per bale = £57
posh hay lasts approx 1 month @ £14 per bag delivered = £168
wagg pellets last approx 3 months @ £3 per bag = £12
newspapers = free
claw clipping every 3 months @ £14 = £56
not had any jabs at new vets so will assume @ £25 each = £150
veg approx £5 each week = £260

total per year per 2 buns = £973 approx

not had a year yet that hasnt involved an emergency vets visit tho

not sure how much my 4 cost - but.....

ways to save money

1) find a vet that clips nails for free like mine do!
2) grow your own veggies, or find a friend who has a large garden/allotment to grow veggies for you!

Lops:

6 bales of hay at £7 = £42
6 bags of megazorb at £7.25 = £43.50
3 3kg bags of pellets at £5.99 = £17.97
3 bags of Burns dandelion at £2.15 = £6.45
3 bags of Burns plantain at £2.15 = £6.45
365 days of herbs at about 50p a day = £182.50
Treats approx = £50
Vaccinations = £96.24
Vet trips last year = £78.16

£523.27

Lionheads:

6 bales of hay at £7 = £42
Newspaper = £0
3 3kg bags of pellets at £5.99 = £17.97
3 bags of Burns dandelion at £2.15 = £6.45
3 bags of Burns plantain at £2.15 = £6.45
365 days of herbs at about 50p a day = £182.50
Treats approx = £50
Vaccinations = £96.24
Vet trips last year = £268.34

£669.95

Treats include apple sticks, fenugreek crunchies, treat hay. I have started making my own biscuits now though so I probably will buy less crunchies.

I can tell you exactly how much I spent at the vets last year = £550.98
And how much I spent at Frogpool (hay, megazorb, Burns stuff, pellets) = £159.52

Food - £20-30 a year I'm guessing
Jabs - £120
Hay - £300 roughly I think (although I may start getting bigger bags delivered)
Couple of new litter trays when they get wrecked - £6 a year
Treats are a few quid a month

Not too bad! Old newspapers in litter trays - free. Boxes and stuff as toys - free!

Bedding (hay and shredded paper, easily available, newsagents give us old newspapers for free :D) about £50.

Food: £20 for dry, £45 for veggies

Vaccinations: £90

Necessities (claw clipping, check-ups etc.): £75

I'm sorry but for a year? 6 vaccinations cost only £45? That's £7.50

Hutch and run - £50
Hay - £48
Pellets - £14
Straw - £30
Veg - nothing just feed peelings etc..
Treats - dont feed treats
Treat ball - £3

so total

£ 145

Rough guesses as I've only had two bunnies for 4 months but going on what I've spent so far this year I'd say
Hay £150
Pellets £30
Veg £250
Megazorb £30

Vac's £110
Rearguard £30
Insurance £210 (Sootys is £120 so not sure how much it will go up when I get Cinders insured aswell this year)

Total: £810

(then there's Sootys dentals which take it to well above £1000)

Let's say for 5 'cos that's what I'm going on atm...

Hay, 10kg - £4 per week = £208
Megazorb - £6.45 every 3 weeks = £116.10
Pellets - £3.75 per week = £195
Vacc - £225 annualy
Litter trays - £6 every 3 months = £24
Greens - £7.50 weekly = £390
Toys - £20 monthly = £240
Treats - £5 fortnightly = £120
Vet checks (I take them 'just in case' some months, for a check up...) £30 for 2 buns each time.

Not including vets checks, for 5 buns = £1518.10

Plus, 4 girls need spayed this year, so that's an extra £375. And vet bills total this year has been around £250 already...

WOW....

I really do not know. I worked out its £22.50 a month, for two bunnies, in food, hay and bedding hay. So that's £270 a year. One myxi vac each - £12 each, so £24 a year in vaccinations.

So £294 a year.

my two cost -

hay - £4.70 a bale which will last me around 3 months = £18.80
Straw - 1 bale a year (only really use it in winter) = £2.50
Megazorb - £7 a bag, roughly one every 6 weeks = £61
Pellets - excel @ £7 approx a bag, 1 bag a month = £84
Vaccinnations - 4 x Mixi, 2 x vhd = £100
Veg - £1.00 a week just on buns, some they share with me so £2 a week = £104
Wood shavings (occasional cost when i run out of megazorb) - £10

total = £380.30 yearly

= £23 a month minus cost of vaccinations

i really didn't think i spent this much though really if you take into account the bulk buys like hay and megazorb aren't often, i just buy food and veg on a regular basis this costs me £15 a month which is more like it :)
