Creating a playpen for my house rabbit

lovelea

New Kit
Hi,

My dwarf house rabbit currently lives in a large plastic rabbit cage and comes out when i get home from work for around 5 hours a day. However I want to create a playpen for him to live in instead which wil allow him more freedom when I'm not there instead of being shut in his cage.
He is also being bonded shortly and so I need the extra space as there will be two of them.

I was planning on buying the Trixie 8 sided play pen below

then buying a clear plastic non slip floor mat to go underneath to protect the carpet. I can then buy a small cage or just have a litter tray and toys and hay rack.
Does this sound suitable? If anybody has any pictures of their house rabbit set ups for me to look at that would be helpful or if you have any ideas on how to create the perfect play and living space.

I did see this play pen with an attachable mat but I think this would be too small for two rabbits.

Thanks

Just so you know those pens don't go straight, so you can't make a rectangle with them unless you get out some cable ties to attach them together.

I like them but I use them outside for my house buns to have a run on grass. Inside I prefer NIC cubes or mesh storage cubes, some people have had success getting them at B&Q. They clip together or you can use cable ties but they also work well for bunny proofing a room which you might decide to do eventually. I prefer bunny proofing myself.

This is a link to a recent post of mine with lots of pics of my setups...

Yes the top one is fine for two buns- the bottom one is tiny :) Best to get some lino to go under the other one if it's indoors- that will work fine- cut it abit bigger than actual size then if any rabbit pees at the edges it won't go over and under.

Have you seen this? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004DW2J4Q/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=AJLG0ID4LCYD5
They do other heights too but this one is high enough so that you could probably put stools, her cage, or a shelf in there and she still couldnt jump out.

Have you thought about just bunny-proofing your room? That will give her the most space and it will not take up any room, unlike the pen. It's really easy to do, especially if you have pen panels or NIC panels to use.

This is for my Nethies!!

Sorry but I had this for an extension and they ate the mat and rattled the panels so that they would fall apart to escape
