  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Wet Leg Disease?

Maybe it means urine scold?
Not that it really matters, most of the rabbits with urine scold are the ones who are never cleaned so what this hutch is really screaming is "Buy me! You rabbit will be miserable but at least you'll never have to clean it!"

I would say that 'wet leg disease' is idiot speak for urine scold, which only usually happens if they aren't cleaned out often enough (though some skin conditons can cause animals to be vulnerable to it). I hate mesh bottom cages!

I hate the thought that anyone could keep a rabbit in a cage like that is horrible. It would be so cold and uncomfortable! Aargh, I know it is not possible to help every bun but I would really like to try!

rabbits should NOT be put on mesh bases as this can cause sore hocks and damage claws/feet.
Foot problems in turn can lead to balance problems whereby the bunny wees down one leg causing urine scald(as far as I know -there is no such thing as wet leg disease- maybe pm marie_kubiak on here- she is a vet or rodney vet?)
Also since rabbits are meant to have plenty of hay, much of it would drop through the base.

A dreadful hutch IMO!
