Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help on french bunnies

Hi I just got 2 french bunnies yday evening. They came with their hutches for during the night and I had two separate runs for them at home.

Anyhow, last night I kept them in their hutches to familiarise them with their surroundings. The lady I got them off kept them
In their hutches all the time. But when I went to check on them this morning the butterfly Lop's chest and face was all covered in blood in closer inspection it seems to be coming from the left hand side of her mouth. I've no idea wad it is or wad to do? I phoned all the vets in town and their closed until Monday morning. She's drinkin but am not sure if shes eating. Help please as these are my first giant breed and I'm currently freaking out.

Thanks in advance

do you have an emergency vets in the area? A little blood does go a long way, but I would try to find a vet to be on the safe side. maybe she has just caught herself on something inside the cage - can you check to see if there are any sharp bits anywhere in the cage, or signs of blood on the cage?

No theres no emergency vets were I live and I've to go to work In an hour which doesnt help matters

I never noticed when I got them home last night as it was dark but there where 3 screws with the pointy sticking in so I removed them.
